HOLY

I sat at the piano one day intentionally to write "Holy". I really wanted to write a song that somehow conveyed the Majesty of God. Something that pointed us towards how awesome He is, and maybe would help us honor him as a huge God. I had in mind a question that I think I’ve asked while leading worship a time or two, as well as maybe have heard others even ask it: “How would you worship Jesus if he walked in the room right now? What would you do?”

It’s really true that giving anything less in worship than the true answer to that question is kinduv selling Him short. Just because we can’t see Him right NOW doesn’t make Him any less worthy. It’s really our pride that steps in and hinders us from going ’ballistic’ for Jesus – putting our full passion on display. Me as much as anyone. It’s something I need to grow in. But it comes down to faith and pride I think. Do I really believe that God inhabits the praises of His people and is actually HERE right now with me? Then which do I care about more: feeding His insatiable appetite for his kid’s love, or protecting my own dignity by not looking dumb. Oh, to be free of my pride!

I’ve always seen this song as a parallel between our worship now and our worship when we see Him on ‘that day’. That day when we’re in a sea of saints in Heaven and out walks Jesus, Conqueror, Redeemer, Savior of the World, and we all go crazy worshipping our King. When He walks in THAT room and when He walks into our sanctuaries in church – perhaps our reactions in the two scenarios should be a bit more similar than they tend to be.
